Privacy
GRIDLANE is a ranked racing platform, so some of what it holds about you is published on purpose: a competition record names the people in it. This page says exactly which parts those are, and what happens to the rest.
The short version
Your name, your picture, your results and any incident you were involved in are public. Your email address, your password, your Steam id, your sessions and what you own on Steam are not. GRIDLANE sells nothing to anybody and runs no advertising or analytics.
Your name
- What
- The first and last name you enter, your Steam persona name if GRIDLANE has read your Steam profile, and a generated name that stands in before either exists.
- Why
- Ranked results are a competition record, and a competition record names people. It is the same reason an entry list at a real race meeting carries names rather than handles.
- How long
- For as long as your account exists. Results reference your account rather than a copy of your name, so correcting a spelling fixes every past result at once.
Your picture
- What
- Your Steam avatar, downloaded and stored by GRIDLANE rather than linked, and any picture you upload yourself, which takes precedence.
- Why
- So a results row has a face beside a name. Stored rather than hot-linked, so a page view does not tell Steam which of its users reads GRIDLANE and when.
- How long
- Until you replace it or your account is deleted. A steward can remove an uploaded picture.
How you sign in
- What
- Your email address if you made an account with one, when you confirmed it, a hash of your password rather than the password itself, your SteamID64 once verified, the account number Google assigns you if you continue with Google (never your Google password, which GRIDLANE never sees), and the sessions you are currently signed in on. When GRIDLANE emails you a link to confirm your address or reset your password, it keeps a hash of that link, the address it went to and when it was used, and the email itself is sent through Resend, the email service GRIDLANE uses.
- Why
- To let you back in, and to make one account one person. A ranked ladder is only worth something if an account is somebody, which is what the Steam check establishes.
- How long
- While your account exists. A session ends at its expiry or when you sign out, whichever comes first. The one-time values that stop a Steam sign-in being replayed are kept only long enough to refuse a replay. An emailed link stops working after 24 hours for a confirmation and one hour for a password reset, and the record of it goes with your account.
Your racing
- What
- The races you entered, where you finished, your lap times, your pace and safety ratings and how each race moved them, and any championship you won.
- Why
- It is the platform. A ladder that did not keep results would have nothing to rank.
- How long
- Kept as part of the competition record, which outlives an account. See "Deleting your account" for what that means.
Incidents and stewarding
- What
- Contact and off-track events the race server reported: who was involved, how fast the contact was, where on the circuit it happened, and any steward ruling on it.
- Why
- Safety rating is earned and lost on contact, so a rating nobody can trace back to an incident is a number with no reason behind it. A steward reviewing a call needs the same record.
- How long
- With the result it belongs to.
Driver reports
- What
- Reports filed after a race: who reported whom, a reason chosen from a fixed list, any words the reporter added, the lap they said it happened on, and a link they gave to a clip or replay. The link is stored as text; GRIDLANE never follows it, and no picture or video is uploaded or held.
- Why
- The race server cannot see intent, so drivers can put what happened to them in front of a steward. The steward ruling on it needs to know who said what.
- How long
- With the result it belongs to.
The drivers you keep a list of
- What
- The drivers you have added to your own list, and when you added each of them.
- Why
- So you can find the people you race with again, and see where they are racing.
- How long
- Until you remove them, or either account is deleted. Deleting your account also takes you off everyone else’s list.
What you own on Steam
- What
- Whether Steam confirms you own each supported simulator, and when that was last checked. Not your games list: one yes, no or unknown per supported sim.
- Why
- Entry to a ranked race requires the game it runs on. Storing the answer rather than asking again means GRIDLANE reads your Steam profile rarely instead of on every page.
- How long
- Refreshed on request and when stale. Removed with your account.
Race start notifications
- What
- If you turn notifications on, the delivery address your browser mints for push messages and the keys that encrypt them, one per browser you opted in from. Also a record of which of your race entries has already had its start notification, so you are never sent two.
- Why
- To tell you, once, that a race you registered for has opened its practice session. GRIDLANE can only push to a browser that handed it an address, which is what turning the toggle on does.
- How long
- A browser subscription lasts until you turn notifications off there, until your browser revokes it (GRIDLANE removes the address the first time the push service reports it dead), or until your account is deleted. The sent record lives and dies with the race entry it is about.
Hosting your own races
- What
- If you subscribe to host races, the organizer that subscription creates: the name and description you publish, the logo you upload, the address your public page lives at, whether GRIDLANE has verified who you are, and the Stripe customer and subscription identifiers your payments are matched by. Also, while a checkout of yours is open, the address of that Stripe page and when it was started. Never a card number, a card type or an expiry date: payment happens on Stripe’s own checkout and no card detail reaches GRIDLANE at all.
- Why
- A race needs a byline, and a driver deciding whether to enter your series needs somewhere to read who runs it. Your logo is stored on GRIDLANE and served from here rather than linked from another site, so that looking at a race does not tell somebody else’s server who was looking. The Stripe identifiers are how a payment or a cancellation is matched back to your account without GRIDLANE holding anything about your card. The open checkout is remembered so that starting one twice sends you back to the same page instead of subscribing you twice.
- How long
- While you host. Only ever one open checkout is kept, replaced when you start another and forgotten as soon as your payment is confirmed; one you never finish is ignored after an hour and removed with your account like everything else here. Cancelling ends the subscription and withdraws your races that have not started; the organizer and every race that already ran stay, because a result carries the byline of whoever ran it. Removed with your account.
Account housekeeping
- What
- An internal identifier, when your account was made and last changed, two flags -- whether you are a steward, and whether the row is a test entrant rather than a person -- and, if you delete your account, when you did.
- Why
- The identifier is what every result above references instead of copying your name into it. The steward flag decides who may rule on an incident. The deletion date is what marks a record as belonging to nobody.
- How long
- With your account. The identifier and the deletion date outlive it, holding your past results together with nothing in them that says who you were.
Deleting your account
On your account page, at the bottom, under "Your data". You type a word to confirm, and it happens immediately -- there is no grace period and no way back in. If you host races, cancel that subscription first: an account that no longer exists must never keep being charged, so deletion is refused until it is cancelled. You can also email the address at the bottom of this page if you would rather ask a person.
Your account and everything above that identifies you personally goes: your name, your email, your password, your Steam id, your Google account number, your picture, your sessions and your sim ownership. What is left of the account is an identifier with a deletion date on it and nothing else -- no name, no address, no way to sign in as it -- which is what holds your past results in the order they finished.
Your race results and the incidents attached to them are not deleted. They are anonymised: the entry stays in the finishing order with your name removed, and stops being connected to you. A result is a shared record rather than a personal one, and erasing a finishing position rewrites the championship standings of everybody who raced against you that day. If you host races, the organizer name stays on the races it ran, for the same reason: a race carries the byline of whoever ran it. Nobody can host under it again.
Taking a copy
On your account page, at the bottom, under "Your data". It is generated when you press it and served only to the account that asked for it.
One JSON file with a section for every category on this page, holding the rows GRIDLANE actually has for you.
Two things are described rather than included. Credentials -- your password hash, the keys your browser minted for notifications -- appear as counts and dates, because a file you can forward is the wrong place for anything that authenticates you. Pictures appear as their type, size and fingerprint, because you already have the picture.
Signing in with Steam
Signing in with Steam uses Steam OpenID: you sign in on Steam’s own page, and GRIDLANE never sees your Steam password or the email address on your Steam account. GRIDLANE reads four things from your Steam account and nothing else: the account number Steam confirms is yours (your SteamID64), your Steam name, your Steam picture, and which of the supported sims you own.

Asking
Both of those are on your account page, and neither needs anybody's help. For a correction, something neither covers, or if you would rather ask a person, write to hello@gridlane.gg.
